Late Sunday night, a confrontation between the Santa Fe Police Department and two people ended in a shooting that left two suspects at hospital.
Police were attempting to take 35-year-old suspect Robert Chavez into custody for several arrest warrants. The law enforcement authorities were responding to the incident around 1:30 p.m. The 10th of March is Sunday.
A Santa Fe police officer was also wounded, per New Mexico State Police. The officer remains on paid administrative leave after being bitten by a Santa Fe police service dog and being shot with gunfire as of Monday, April 1,
Chavez was at a house on Don Quixote and left the area in a car, according to Santa Fe Police. He was later located at Rodeo Park Drive West, where police attempted to arrest Chavez.
Officers pursued Chavez as he attempted to avoid police vehicles. During the pursuit, Chavez and a police vehicle crashed and disabled the police unit, according to police.
Santa Fe police used anti-blocking devices to stop Chavez from driving, and ultimately he pulled over in Encanto.
